Which WordPress SEO Plugin to use.
In my last traffic related post (First Steps to Web Traffic) I mentioned that I would be installing the WordPress SEO Plugin (by Yoast) on this website. That led me to thinking, which WordPress SEO Plugins should you use if you were just starting out and learning the ropes about both WordPress and Traffic Generation.
For the purposes of this article, a few assumptions are being made, which you need to consider…
- You are new to using WordPress.
- You want the best FREE SEO Plugin.
- You have minimal experience with Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).
With that being said; let me help you decide which wordpress SEO plugins to use.
For me, it boils down to two choices:
WordPress SEO vs All-In-One-SEO Pack
As I have already mentioned, I am using WordPress SEO (by Yoast) on this blog, which in itself is my vote of approval for this plugin. Simply because I am using it does not mean that you shouldn’t read any further because what I reveal below may sway your decision as to which SEO Plugin to use.
Like most WordPress Plugins, installing WordPress SEO is a breeze, whether you install it directly from the WordPress repository or via uploading the plugin’s zip file, it installs easily. Then; the frustrations start, as setting up WordPress SEO can be a little scary. There are numerous ‘How to guides’ available online, but in comparison to All-In-One-SEO Pack, WordPress SEO is definitely more complex to setup. Once setup, WordPress SEO is easy to use. What I really like about it, is the colour coded indicator that sits in the Wordpess Page/Post Publish Box, which gives you immediate feedback about your pages SEO Status…

I used All-In-One-SEO Pack plugin on every website/blog I ever created, prior to this one (DuaneReeve.com) and I am still using it on several client sites. Quite simply because it is less intimidating to setup and it has all the functionality to get the job done, without scaring my clients. The All-In-One-SEO-Pack plugin is also very easy to install and way easier to setup than Yoast’s WordPress SEO Plugin. Again, there are numerous tutorials online to help with setup and since the plugin is less complicated, the tutorials are easier to follow.
While there is no definitive winner between which of these two WordPress SEO Plugins to use, I would recommend using the “All-In-One-SEO-Pack plugin” if you are still new to WordPress and SEO. It’s simply easier to setup and offers sufficient functionality to help you with your on-page SEO efforts. It is also very easy to use! If you don’t mind the technical challenges; go with WordPress SEO (later versions are easier to setup).
NOTE: It is also a good idea to check if your WordPress Theme supports either plugin before installing it. Most themes should support these plugin as they are the two most popular and have been around for years, but I have had experiences in the past where there were theme conflicts – In most instances this was poor theme coding & not the plugin.
